Helping to Organize Book Drives
to Book Sorting & Organizing to Sharing Books
with Teachers
Working
with both community service liaisons and parent and student
volunteers, we help to organize book drives in area schools
and other community institutions to collect new and gently
used books for children in grades K-6.
If needed, we provide boxes as well as posters announcing
the book drive. We can provide transportation for the books
when the drive is over. Student volunteers play a major
role in their school's effort and obtain community service
credit in the process. Their help can also be vital at the
Teacher BookShare event described below.
We take those books to the teachers at Turning
the Page's (TTP) Title 1 partner schools. These booksharing
events are special events for the teachers and occur at
a time they have chosen. The books are presorted and displayed
so the teachers are able to browse and select the titles
they want for their classroom bookshelves.
As we perfect the process and grow, we foresee several
Teacher BookShare events occurring each year for teachers
in TTP's partner schools.
